Conflict and Trade (ISSN 1941-6199): Edited by Maya Shatzmiller This series provides in-depth examinations of issues related to the social, economic and cultural framework and interaction of the conduct of trade in conflict situations, worldwide, but with particular focus on the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean. This region, while not exclusively, has been historically the scene of a struggle to derive the economic gain from trade while negotiating a sense of identity in a rapidly changing world. In the face of empires and nation states' willingness to use violence and military might to secure trade with their colonies and intellectual incursions to assure cultural vulnerability among their colonies' citizens, the resulting relationships of trade and conflict that developed in this confluence of cultures continues to have a profound effect on the history of much of the world. Books in the series address the issues and negotiations arising from the desire for increased profit, market share and security of transportation, against maintaining territorial and cultural integrity.
