The Chronicle of Patriarch Michael Rabo:
Support the Edessa (Hay al-Suryan) Manuscript Project
The Chronicle (or History) of Michael Rabo is one of the most important historical records of the Syriac Orthodox Church. There is only one copy of this History, written 500 years ago in Edessa. The Syriac Orthodox community of Edessa took care of this copy for about 500 years. When in 1923 the entire community had to leave Edessa after Sayfo—leaving their homes, Churches and possessions— they kept the Chronicle of Michael Rabo with them. Today, this copy is still preserved by the Edessan community in Hay al-Syrian, Aleppo.
The publication of this treasure is very important not only to the Edessan community but also to the entire Syriac Church. This history starts from the creation of the World until the 12th century when Patriarch Michael Rabo died. This history contains many records that cannot be found elsewhere. Great writers like Bar Ebroyo relied on this Chronicle when they wrote their books.

Since the Chronicle was brought from Edessa to Aleppo, no one was allowed access to it. In fact, there are two keys required to open the safe where the manuscript is kept, one key with the bishop and one key with custodians of the Edessa community. In June 2008, the Board of St. George Church in Aleppo allowed photographing this important Chronicle for the first time in history for the purpose of publishing it.
The publication of this 800-page color volume will bring the glorious past to the present and will allow us to study the history of the Syriac Church and of the Edessan community. The printing of this book alone will cost about $25,000 which we hope to raise through generous donors like you. This subsidy is required as sales of the volume will not cover its cost. We aim to financially help the Edessan community in Aleppo through this project by sending them 100 FREE copies.
All donors will be acknowledged in the book and will get free copies. There are 3 levels of contributions: Silver will get 1 FREE copy, Gold will get 3 FREE copies, and Platinum will get 5 FREE copies.
