Two Sanskrit inscriptions were discovered in 1857. One was found at Bhera Ghat on the Nerbudda and the other was uncovered at the village of Tewar. The first inscription brought to light the fact that the paternal great grandfather of the queen of Gayakarna Deva, Hansapala, is a representative of the royal house of Mewar. The inscription mentions a person who has a very unusual. It is almost certain that the person mentioned in this inscription was from the kingdom of Chedi. Both inscriptions list the names of the rulers of Chedi and the names of their consorts and kinsmen.
