Gorgias Projects

Gorgias Press publishes academic and non-fiction books on a wide variety of subjects. The Press was formed and is being run by scholars for scholars. Our staff are themselves published authors, and understand your needs as an author. They work with you in every step of the way to ensure that your work is published and produced in the best possible form.

At Gorgias, we publish monographs, pedagogical works, collections of papers & conference proceedings, reference works, and translated academic works. One of our flagship publications is the Gorgias Dissertation Series. The series disseminates outstanding doctoral dissertations that give unique academic perspectives that would otherwise remain inaccessible. Gorgias Press introduced a number of authors to the academic community as published authors through this series.

We also produce reprints of valuable rare books, when possible with new introductions written by specialists. We are open to hear suggestions from scholars like you. It is worth pointing out that our books are produced using both traditional and the latest in digital publishing technology. This ensures that your book will never go out-of-print!

I. The Submission Process
If you are interested in publishing your work with Gorgias Press, you will find the submission process an easy one. You can submit your material in electronic form (e.g., via e-mail attachment). You need to include:
  1. A cover letter or e-mail.
  2. An abstract of the book.
  3. Table of contents.
  4. Sample chapters (or all chapters).
  5. Your CV
  6. The names and contacts of two or three references, scholars who are familiar with your work. (Mandatory for Gorgias Dissertation Series submissions)
Submissions are sent to submissions@gorgiaspress.com.
II. The Evaluation Process

All submissions go through an evaluation process which ensures quality of content. Our internal editors—experts in their respective fields—evaluate the submission. The opinions of external scholars are also sought when needed (and always in the case of doctoral dissertations). Once a decision is reached, the author is notified. The entire process may take from a few weeks to a few months depending on the nature of the submission and the response of external evaluators.

III. The Production Process
Once accepted, the work gets in the pipeline for production. You, the author, are asked to provide the final submission according to the Gorgias Press Submission Guidelines (which is provided). After we receive the final submission, the book goes through copy editing. The copy editor will work closely with you and will provide feedback whenever necessary. Then, the book is typeset and a proof is generated. One of our editors will be in touch to obtain your approval of the proof. An attractive cover is designed and the book is printed. The book will not go to press without your approval. The production process takes a few months and depends on the condition of the submission. The more you adhere to the guidelines, the faster the production becomes.
III. The Marketing Process
We take the marketing of your book very seriously. Within a few weeks of publication, you will start seeing your book listed on various web sites (in addition to ours) such as Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, Borders.com, and many others. Additionally, the book will become available through large book distribution channels both nationally and internationally. Libraries will be notified. You will also start seeing your book exhibited at academic conferences, and possibly advertised in periodicals. The book will also be included in various direct marketing campaigns. As soon as the book becomes available, copies are sent to various journals for review. You will have a say as to which journals the book will be sent to. We are generous with our review copies.
