The Aramaeans appear in history as early as the time of Hammurabi, and the history of their migration and their kingdoms is attested in inscriptions and in the Old Testament. This book takes the story of the Aramaeans down to the Assyrian conquest, ending with the taking of Gurgum in 711 BC, and then discusses the spread of their language, which became the common speech of the Middle East.
