This work by George S. Harris, a former member of the diplomatic service in Turkey, is a collection of brief biographies of Turkish diplomats who served during the time of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. While most studies of Turkey in the 1920s and 1930s devote their attention to the activities of Atatürk and his close associates such as Ismet Inönü, Harris instead focuses on the figures who were employed by Turkey’s foreign service, often without any experience. To compile the biographies, Harris has drawn on a multitude of sources, many of which are obscure or hard to find. Harris also includes an introduction to the structure of the foreign service in the new Turkish Republic.
