The Syriac text known as the Acts of the Persian Martyrs is one of the most important works of the early Syriac tradition because it is both a work of history and self-definition for the Christians of the Persian Empire. The accounts recorded here serve not only to remember the Christians who were martyred but also to provide meaning for the surviving community that continues to endure persecution. In the present work, Georg Hoffmann provides German translations of extensive portions of this important text. The translations are accompanied by a critical apparatus with helpful notes on translation and historical data and an extremely helpful index of subjects, names, places and important words.
