This dictionary, originally part of the Classic Dictionary series, contains a copious Greek-English section, an Appendix of Proper and Geographical names, and a more concise English-Greek section. The Appendix will be of historic interest in reflecting the classical education of the time: Professor Berry's declared intention is to define all the names occurring in the standard list of works then read before admission to college: Xenophon's Anabasis, the first two books of his Hellenica, the first six of the Iliad, and the first two of the Odyssey. Sophocles is thus defined as "one of the thirty tyrants of Athens" - and not as the playwright, who is not mentioned in Xenophon or Homer.
