The dating of ceramics and the chronological development of the style of their form and decoration is the basis for most (if not all) Archaeological dating in the Classical world. This paper uses a group of inscribed pottery with datable references to fix a more certain chronology for such pottery in 3rd century BC Alexandria. The article includes photographs and sketches of both the pots and inscriptions and is interesting both for the content and for an example of the process by which such a basic element of archaeological study as pottery chronology is reconstructed.
