Friedrich Schulthess here offers a large number of Syriac texts dealing with church councils/synods of the fourth and fifth centuries. The Creeds of Nicea and Constantinople are, of course, included, as are the canons of the councils: Ancyra (314), Neocaesarea (314), Nicea (325), Gangra (340), Antioch (341), Laodicea (363), Constantinople (381), and Chalcedon (451). The related documents include Constantine’s letter summoning the Fathers to Nicea. The texts are presented with a small number of critical notes and prefaced by a short introduction, in which Schulthess lists and discusses the manuscripts used for the edition of these texts.
