As the two great Mediterranean empires who shared the sea for several centuries, the Ottoman Empire and Spain had an uneasy and complex relationship. The seventeen articles in this volume seek to better understand the interactions between the two. Instead of concentrating only on conflict (though it was also an important facet of Spanish-Ottoman relations) the articles here explore a variety of topics, from diplomatic exchanges to political and administrative thought, and even to the Franco and Kemal governments of the 1930s.
