The eminent Italian scholar of eastern Christianity Ignazio Guidi (1844-1935), in an extract from the Giornale della Società Asiatica Italiana, here presents a critical edition of the Statutes of the School of Nisibis, prefaced by a historical and textual introduction. Comparisons with the Arabic translation of the text are made in the notes to the edition. This volume provides an introduction to and edition of one of the foundational texts for our knowledge about this important educational institution of the Church of the East, founded at the end of the fifth century and active through the seventh century.
