Mme. A. Guéron was the director of the Girls’ School of the Universal Jewish Organization (L’Alliance Israelite Universélle) at Andrinople (modern Edirne) during the First Balkan War of 1912–1913. Journal du Siège d'Andrinople is a diary in the form of a compilation of her letters addressed to the president of the Universal Jewish Organization at Paris during the siege of Andrinople by the Bulgarian forces. As such, it is an important document that not only contains information on the relations between different groups of the Jewish community of the city but also presents a personal account of one of the forgotten periods of the recent history, when the Balkans was in turmoil and the Ottoman Empire was in the dawn of a crisis which ended with the collapse of the empire.
