Frothingham here offers the Syriac text, with an annotated Italian translation, of Jacob of Sarug’s homily on the Baptism of Constantine. The text is based chiefly on two manuscripts, one from the Vatican and the other from the British Museum (now Library), but there is also a fragment at the Bodleian Library of Oxford. Frothingham’s introduction discusses these manuscripts and also points out a Garshuni version of the homily from a Vatican manuscript, a portion of which is printed by him; he also touches on other sources that deal with this homily’s theme. The homily, 832 lines long, was not among those originally published by Bedjan, but the Syriac text may be found in the extra volume of the reprint of Bedjan’s set by Gorgias Press.
