The 1887 edition of Encyclopedia Britannica contained an extensive article on Syriac Literature by the late Professor W. Wright. The article was later reprinted in a book, with additional notes from Wright's own copy and suggestions written to him by eminent scholars as Duval and Nestle. While outdated, Wright's Short History of Syriac Literature remains the primary source of information on Syriac literature in the English language.
