The legend of the Seven Sleepers has been known in many Christian traditions, east and west, and even in Islam. The present work contains a number of previously unedited eastern Christian texts related to the legend, edited and translated by the eminent Italian scholar of Eastern Christianity Ignazio Guidi (1844-1935). Texts in Coptic, Syriac, Arabic, Ethiopic (Ge’ez), and Armenian are included. Guidi provides an introduction to the texts as well as Italian translations. Students and scholars of early Christian literature, especially in the east, as well as those interested in these languages, will find this work a valuable addition to their libraries.
